We know that the start of college is an exciting time not only for new students, but also for their parents and family. Whether it’s the first or fifth family member to take this step, each time is different, and families have many hopes, concerns, and questions about embarking on a career at UMass Amherst.
The New Students Orientation staff is eager to make this transition as easy as possible for you and your students. We offer Parents and Family Orientations simultaneously with the student orientation. This gives us an opportunity to welcome you and share information about academics, campus life and how to best support your student.
Our goal is to answer all of your questions and give you the resources you need to help make your student’s transition as smooth as possible. Here is what attendees said about Parents and Family Orientation:
"I thought the entire program was extremely professional and organized. The information, materials, and presenters were most valuable to me, and I look forward to the resource book as a guide. I almost skipped this program, and am so grateful I attended. Kudos to all!"
"This is my second child going to college and by far UMass orientation was substantially better. I am so impressed with the organization and professionalism of everyone involved in orientation. The sessions were very informative and not boring at all. I am really impressed and when talking to other parents, they felt the same way."
We've designed our parent checklist to help you keep track of all the important "to-do's" leading up to NSO.
