About Student Life
Outside of Class
Over the next four years, you will explore and challenge yourself both academically and personally. This connection between your intellectual endeavors and your life outside of class is a pivotal part of your university experience. Our Center for Student Development is at the hub of this energy, offering unlimited opportunities for service, leadership, athleticism, career exploration, artistic and cultural expression – and every other possible interest you may have.
Your life at UMass Amherst will be defined by new ideas and solid traditions. Each fall brings classes with provocative discussions. As the semester picks up, the galleries on campus fill up with original art created by students – and everyone stops by the pond to rub the Minuteman’s toe, a legend said to bring good luck on exams.
It is this juxtaposition of past and present that makes the University of Massachusetts Amherst a very special place, and completes your education both in the classroom and around the pond.
In four years, you will graduate with academic credentials from one of the most prestigious universities in the country, and an understanding of how the world works. It’s an unbeatable combination.
