Friday, August 31

First-Year Move-In Day

8 AM Undergraduate International Student Advising - Mahar Auditorium

All degree seeking, undergraduate, international students are required to attend this orientation overview and advising session.

10 AM - 6 PM Parent Services Fall Welcome 

We welcome new UMass families to campus on move-in day for first-year students. Staff, students and parent volunteers will be on hand to greet families, share resources and answer questions. We also have a special surprise for you to make for your UMass student!

5 PM  Commonwealth Honors College Induction Ceremony - Fine Arts Center Concert Hall

Students and their families are invited to the Honors Induction Ceremony. Following the ceremony, students will go to dinner in the Dining Commons. Families are invited to join them before saying their goodbyes.

7- 9 PM First-Year Student Floor Meetings - located in your Residence Hall

See your Resident Assistant (RA) for details on your meeting.

9 PM - 12 Midnight  First Night Events - in the Northeast, Orchard Hill, and Southwest Residential Areas

Specific activities vary by area.

9 PM -  12 Midnight Late Night Dining - Berkshire Dining Commons

9 PM - 1 AM The Big U - Haigis Mall

Saturday, September 1

Transfer Move-In Day

10 AM RAP Meet and Greet - in Your Residence Hall

Students living in RAPs meet with your RA for a short get together and picture, then go to brunch together. 

11 AM - 1 PM Brunch - at the Dining Commons (DCs)

11 AM  Permaculture Gardening - Franklin Dining Commons

Learn about gardening techniques that are more than just sustainable, get your hands dirty, and meet new, like-minded friends! Participants are welcome to work in the garden for as long or short as they like.

12 - 2 PM  Adventure into Amherst - Downtown Amherst

Come and meet your downtown neighbors and find out why it’s called a perfect place to live. Local business owners are eager to welcome you to your new home.  Enjoy music, delicious food, deals at local shops and much more!  Meet in your residential areas to walk into town.

2 - 5 PM  Ice Skating - Mullins Center Practice Rink

Chill out on the ice with your new friends!

2 - 5:30 PM  UPlay Jamboree - Intramural Fields next to the Mullins Center

Play tournament style dodgeball or try out volleyball, badminton, spikeball, kan jam, or bean bag toss. Snacks, giveaways, and games await you.

2 - 5:30 PM  Drawn Together - Campus Center Auditorium (Lower Level)

Bring your friends or make some new ones while you create your masterpiece including coloring, card making, and learning about community service opportunities.

6 PM  Many Voices. One Community. - Mullins Center

Each new student brings a unique voice to our campus community. Join us for award-winning international cuisine, performances and conversations about all the differences that together make UMass a strong and inclusive living and learning community. (Tonight's dinner will be served at this event, not in the Dining Commons.) Please note: patrons of the Mullins Center will be required to walk through metal detectors when entering the venue. To expedite the process, we ask that students remove cell phones from their pockets and encourage you to avoid bringing bags to the facility. Purses and other small personal bags are allowed but will be inspected at all entrances and may delay your entry to the arena.

8 PM  Out of State & International Student Meet-Up - Amherst Room, Campus Center, 10th floor

Learn about useful resources and local customs while connecting with other out of state and international students.

9 PM - 12 Midnight  Mall Madness - Catch a Bus to the Hampshire Mall from your Residential Area

UMass invades the Hampshire Mall after hours!  Catch a bus from your residential area to Hadley for special student discounts, demonstrations, and even a late-night movie!

9 PM - 12 Midnight Late Night Dining- Berkshire DC

9 PM - 1 AM  Laser Tag- Campus Center Auditorium (Lower Level)

Around every corner awaits a new friend - come play laser tag for a night of fun!

Sunday, September 2

8 AM - 6 PM  New2U Tag Sale - Student Union Ballroom

Come shop around for all your thirfty desires: futons, TVs, mini-fridges, storage containers, clothing and LOADS MORE.

12 Noon - 5 PM  UFest - Goodell Lawn

Join us for a campus festival featuring: Student Performances & Best of NSO Open Mic, Interactive Displays, Games, Carnival Activities, Library Tours, Sidewalk Chalk and UMass Dining Food Tents. Lunch will be at UFest, and not the Dining Commons.

4 - 7 PM  Ice Skating - Mullins Center Practice Rink

Chill out on the ice with your new friends!

5 - 7 PM  Dinner at the DCs

6:30 PM  Transfer Dessert Reception - Marriott Center, Campus Center, 11th Floor

Meet other incoming transfer students while you learn about campus resources. Show off your UMass knowledge for a chance to win awesome prizes!

7:30 - 10 PM  Get Your Game On - Learning Commons, W.E.B. Du Bois Library

Get your semester off to a winning start! Come enjoy a night of fun, games, and prizes!

8 PM  UPC's Night Under the Stars - Campus Center Auditorium

A showcase of student comedy groups on campus! Groups will perform for new students and the UMass community.
 

9 PM - 12 Midnight Scavenger Hunt - Campus Center Auditorium

Get to know campus after dark! Follow clues and make your way around campus for a chance to win some UMass prizes. Start your adventure at the Campus Center Auditorium.

For first-year CHC students. Begin your journey toward achieving academic excellence at the Commonwealth Honors College. Take advantage of all the support available to the CHC community. Join us for a morning of connection, sharing, and exploring best success strategies. Learn how to earn your CHC gold stole at our Celebration of Excellence! 

10:30 - 11:30 AM Off-Campus Student Meet Up - Off Campus Student Center

Get to know your Off Campus Student Center! Learn about the space you can call 'home' between classes, to study, or just hang out in. Meet other students living off campus.

11:30 AM - 12:30 PM Non-residential Students: Walk Your Schedule - Off Campus Student Center

Get a tour of the academic buildings on campus. Bring a copy of your schedule to help you figure out where your courses are this fall! Meet at the Off Campus Student Center. 

11:45 AM - 1 PM  Lunch at the DCs

2 - 2:30 PM  Pick Up Your University T-Shirt - Mullins Center Concourse

2:30 PM  New Students Convocation followed by the Class Picture & Minuteman March - Mullins Center

Chancellor Kumble R. Subbaswamy officially welcomes you! Immediately following Convocation, join your classmates for your class picture. Then follow the band in the traditional Minuteman March to the Welcome BBQ.
