Friday, September 1

First-Year Move-In Day

9 AM - 5 PM Parent Services Fall Welcome - Haigis Mall

We look forward to welcoming new families during Move-In. Once your student is settled into their room, stop by Haigis Mall, near the Whitmore Administration Building. You can meet other families and write a postcard with good wishes for your student. Our office will deliver the card to your student via campus mail the following week. Keep your eye out for a sweet surprise too!

5 PM  Commonwealth Honors College Induction Ceremony - Fine Arts Center Concert Hall

Students and their families are invited to the Honors Induction Ceremony. Following the ceremony, students will go to dinner in the Dining Commons. Families are invited to join them before saying their goodbyes.

7- 9 PM First-Year Student Floor Meetings - located in your Residence Hall

See your Resident Assistant (RA) for details on your meeting.

9 PM - 12 Midnight  First Night Events - in the Northeast, Orchard Hill, and Southwest Residential Areas

Specific activities vary by area.

9 PM -  2 AM  Late Night Dining - Berkshire and Worcester DCs

Saturday, September 2

Transfer Move-In Day

10 AM  RAP Meet and Greet - in your Residence Hall

Students living in RAPs meet with your RA for a short get together and picture, then go to brunch together.

10 AM - 1 PM Brunch - at the Dining Commons (DCs)

11 AM  Permaculture Gardening - Franklin Dining Commons

Learn about gardening techniques that are more than just sustainable, get your hands dirty, and meet new, like-minded friends! Participants are welcome to work in the garden for as long or short as they like.

12 - 2 PM  Adventure into Amherst - Downtown Amherst

Come and meet your downtown neighbors and find out why it’s called a perfect place to live. Local business owners are eager to welcome you to your new home.  Enjoy music, delicious food, deals at local shops and much more!  Meet in your residential areas to walk into town:

  • Central – Butterfield Bus Stop         
  • CHCRC – Mullins Center Bus Stop
  • Northeast – Arnold Bus Stop
  • Orchard Hill – Dickinson Bus Stop
  • Southwest – Southwest Horseshoe

2 - 5:30 PM  UPlay Jamboree - Intramural Fields next to the Mullins Center

Play tournament style dodgeball or kickball or try out volleyball, badminton, spikeball, kan jam, or bean bag toss. Snacks, giveaways, and games await you.

2 - 5:30 PM  Drawn Together - Campus Center Auditorium (Lower Level)

Bring your friends or make some new ones while you create your masterpiece including coloring, card making, and learning about community service opportunities.

2 - 6 PM  Ice Skating - Mullins Center Practice Rink

Chill out on the ice with your new friends!

3 and 4:30 PM Meditation - Campus Center, Room 917

Relax… Meditate!! Join us for a  student-led, non-denominational meditation group. No experience necessary.

6 PM  Many Voices. One Community. - Mullins Center

Each new student brings a unique voice to our campus community. Join us for award-winning international cuisine, performances and conversations about all the differences that together make UMass a strong and inclusive living and learning community. (Tonight's dinner will be served at this event, not in the Dining Commons.)

8 PM  Out of State & International Student Meet-Up - Student Union, Cape Cod Lounge

Learn about useful resources and local customs while connecting with other out of state and international students.

9 PM - 12 Midnight  Mall Madness - Catch a Bus to the Hampshire Mall from your Residential Area

UMass invades the Hampshire Mall after hours!  Catch a bus from your residential area to Hadley for special student discounts, demonstrations, and even a late-night movie!

9 PM - 1 AM  Laser Tag- Campus Center Auditorium (Lower Level)

Around every corner awaits a new friend - come play laser tag for a night of fun!

9 PM - 2 AM Late Night Dining- Berkshire DC

Sunday, September 3

8 AM - 6 PM  New2U Tag Sale - Student Union Ballroom

Come shop around for all your thirfty desires: futons, TVs, mini-fridges, storage containers, clothing and LOADS MORE.

12 Noon - 5 PM  UFest - Goodell Lawn

Join us for a campus festival featuring: Student Performances & Best of NSO Open Mic, Interactive Displays, Games, Carnival Activities, Library Tours, Sidewalk Chalk and UMass Dining Food Tents. Lunch will be at UFest, and not the Dining Commons.

4 - 8 PM  Ice Skating - Mullins Center Practice Rink

Chill out on the ice with your new friends!

5 - 7 PM  Dinner at the DCs

6:30 - 8:30 PM  Transfer Dessert Reception - Amherst Room, Campus Center 10th Floor

Meet other incoming transfer students while you learn about campus resources. Show off your UMass knowledge for a chance to win awesome prizes!

7:30 - 10 PM  Get Your Game On - Learning Commons, W.E.B. Du Bois Library

Get your semester off to a winning start! Come enjoy a night of fun, games, and prizes!

8 - 10 PM  UPC's Night Under the Stars - Campus Center Auditorium

A showcase of student comedy groups on campus! Groups will perform for new students and the UMass community.

Join the Outing Club for a hiking, kayaking, or climbing trip!

9:30 -10:15 AM and 10:30 - 11:15 AM  Go for the Gold in Commonwealth Honors College - Events Hall, Commonwealth Honors College

Open House, Community Meet & Greet, Interactive conversation with current students and advisors who will share strategies for your successful graduation and how to earn the coveted CHC gold stole at our Celebration of Excellence when you graduate.

Chancellor Kumble R. Subbaswamy officially welcomes you! Immediately following Convocation, join your classmates for your class picture. Then follow the band in the traditional Minuteman March to the Welcome BBQ.

4 - 7 PM  Welcome UMass BBQ - Haigis Mall

The UMass community unites for food, fun and a chance to see old friends and make new ones! Open to all students, returning and new!
