When you come to UMass Amherst for Summer NSO, you will have a busy two days on campus taking care of business, registering for classes, and meeting new people.
First-year students move to campus on the Friday before Labor Day weekend for Fall NSO. You will participate in New Students Convocation and special events to get you ready for your first semester. You will make connections with faculty, staff, and other students who are here to help you get acclimated to the university. Plus, you will find your way around campus and town before classes start.
Orientation for international students has two components. The first part is completed with the New Students Orientation (NSO) office. NSO is when you will register for your classes, and get ready for your transition from your last school to UMass Amherst. International students can do their NSO on campus, in June/July or online.
The second part is done with the International Programs Office (IPO). International students must be on campus at the end of the summer to complete the in-person International Student Orientation (ISO). The ISO covers immigration requirements, document checks, information on how to study in the US education system, and cultural/ safety/health information sessions to help with your transition to the United States.
ORIENTATION FOR PARENTS AND FAMILIES

Our orientation for parents and families is designed to support your family in this transition. Presentations include academics, support services, money matters, and much more.
