How to Register for Orientation
Step 1. Review the materials sent to you by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Office of Information Technologies.
Once you are admitted to UMass Amherst you will receive a mailing which includes your acceptance letter, an enrollment form, New Students Orientation information, and other important information about how to prepare for your orientation session. Please be sure to read this information thoroughly.
Shortly after receiving this mailing, the Office of Information Technologies (OIT) will send information about your OIT Account, which gives you access to computer services at UMass and the orientation registration system.
Step 2. If you haven’t already done so, activate your Office of Information Technologies account.
The Office of Information Technologies (OIT) will send information about how to activate your OIT computing account to the email address listed on your application. The email contains your OIT account user name (known as “NetID”) and your initial password. This will give you access to SPIRE, the campus student information system, and to the orientation registration system. If you have not activated your account within two weeks of the message being sent to your email address, OIT will send a paper mailing to you.
To activate your account:
1. Go to https://spire.umass.edu
2. Click on *Activate Your Account* on the right side of the page
3. Fill in the required information
If you've misplaced your account information (NetID/password), please check the email account you listed on your application for admission, as your account credentials were emailed to that address.
Step 3. Return your Enrollment Form and $400 Enrollment Fee.
Find your enrollment form in the acceptance mailing sent to you by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Verify that all of the information is correct and then sign, date, and return it with your $400 enrollment fee. Students MUST pay the $400 enrollment fee BEFORE registering for orientation. Please check the Admissions Application status website to confirm that your enrollment fee has been received.
Step 4. Starting on November 7, 2009 log in to the New Students Orientation Registration.
Once your OIT Account is activated and you’ve confirmed that Admissions has received your enrollment fee, go to our online registration system. You will need your NetID and password to log in.
Please keep in mind that orientation session dates are filled on a “first-come, first-served” basis, and your choice may be full. The earlier you sign up, the greater your chance of getting your top choice.
After you register online for orientation, you will receive an email confirmation and a printed confirmation.
Please Note:
1. Although a Kosher Meal Plan is offered to students during the academic year, kosher meals are not available at New Students Orientation or Parents and Family Orientation. Vegetarian options are available at every meal.
2. If you require any special services (interpreters, untimed exams, etc.) while you are attending orientation, please indicate your needs on the orientation registration form or contact the New Students Orientation office at (413) 545-2621 or email newstudent@acad.umass.edu as soon as possible.
