All About NSO
It’s official: You’re now a member of UMass Amherst’s global community. New Students Orientation is your first taste of life at the university. It is also our first chance to welcome you in person, with all the warmth and enthusiasm a letter of acceptance simply can’t convey.
Orientation, as you probably know, is a top-to-bottom look at what’s what. You’ll meet fellow students, request your residence hall, discuss your academic path with an advisor, and select classes. You will also have the chance to participate in workshops, learn about extracurricular activities, tell us what you imagine for yourself, and hear what students, faculty, and staff have to say about your opportunities as an UMass Amherst undergrad.
New Students Orientation happens twice a year: in the summer for students beginning fall semester and in January for students beginning spring semester. There are separate orientation sessions for freshmen, transfer students, and students entering the Stockbridge School.
