AMHERST, Mass. – University Health Services (UHS) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst has earned accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). UHS' three-year term is the maximum granted as a result of the voluntary accreditation process.
The AAAHC is the preeminent leader in developing standards that advance quality healthcare in ambulatory settings. Accreditation recognizes UHS' dedication to excellence as demonstrated through adherence to nationally recognized professional standards.
"UHS' mission is to provide quality healthcare for the university community," said Executive Director Bernette A. Melby. "Scrutiny and consultative feedback from an independent, not-for-profit group benefits both the health center and those we serve."
Organizations seeking AAAHC accreditation undergo extensive self-assessment and an on-site survey by experts including physicians, nurses and administrators who are actively involved in ambulatory healthcare. Accreditation is determined by the level of compliance with the association's rigorous standards; if granted, terms can range from six months to three years.
AAAHC accreditation is specifically for organizations providing medical or diagnostic services in settings where overnight stays are not required, including college health centers, group medical and dental practices and community health centers.
UHS provides comprehensive healthcare, education and referral services for UMass Amherst students, faculty and staff. For more information, visit www.umass.edu/uhs, or call 413/577-5000.
