Frank Mangan’s expertise is in vegetable production, distribution and marketing. The focus of his research and outreach activities have been on evaluating vegetable and herb crops popular among the large and growing immigrant population in Massachusetts and New England.

Mangan has developed urban agriculture and nutrition projects in Springfield and Worcester that strive to increase the consumption of fruits and vegetables in those city’s low-income communities, a large percentage of whom are immigrant/ethnic communities, while expanding the market for area farmers to sell their crops of ethnic vegetables in the city.
