April 4, 2008

AMHERST, Mass. – A University of Massachusetts Amherst student fell to his death early Friday morning from a 17th-floor window of the John Quincy Adams residence hall. UMass Amherst police responded to a report of someone jumping from the building about 3:30 a.m. The case is under investigation, but police said there are no indications at this time of foul play.

The student has been identified as Liam O’Donnelly, 20, a second-year student from Hingham, Mass. The case is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s office, who by law have jurisdiction over unattended deaths, and the UMass Amherst Police.

“This is a difficult time for the campus community. Our sincere condolences go out to Liam’s family and friends,” said Ed Blaguszewski, campus spokesman.
