Kumble R. Subbaswamy will be formally inaugurated as chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Amherst as part of Founders Week marking the 150th anniversary of the commonwealth’s flagship campus.
 
Subbaswamy, who took office July 1, 2012, is the 30th leader of the campus since the founding of Massachusetts Agricultural College in 1863. UMass President Robert L. Caret and Henry M. Thomas, III, chairman of the UMass Board of Trustees, will conduct the investiture ceremony, which will be followed by Subbaswamy’s inaugural address.
 
The event also will include remarks by representatives of UMass Amherst’s Faculty Senate, Student Government Association, Alumni Association, campus administrators, Pawel Hawrylak of the National Research Council of Canada, and Massachusetts Senate Majority Leader Stan Rosenberg.
 
More than 50 colleges, universities, honor societies and professional organizations from across the U.S. and Canada will also be represented at the ceremony.
