In a move to maximize access and broaden its audience, the department of music and dance will now offer all concerts by the world-class faculty at no charge. Many faculty members regularly perform concerts at Lincoln Center and other major venues where prices range as high as $125 or more.

In addition, all UMass Amherst students are now able to attend regularly scheduled music and dance department events at no charge, including performances by the department’s top orchestral, jazz, choral, and dance ensembles. Employees will be offered the same discount as senior citizens ($5 in most cases) to ticketed events. Special events like Multibands are excluded from the new pricing policies.

“Few Universities, public or private, present music and dance events of such variety and high-quality, and we hope that students, staff and the general public will take full advantage of these new policies,” said Matt Longhi, the department’s director of marketing and publicity.

Upcoming faculty concerts include those by clarinetist Romie de Guise-Langlois on Wednesday, Oct. 11 and trombonist Greg Spiridopoulos on Sunday, Oct. 15.
