UMass Amherst Students Helping Local Communities Saturday During Mass Impact Day


Approximately 400 UMass students will spend Saturday working on volunteer projects in area communities as part of the 6th Annual Mass Impact Day.

When: Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017

7:45 a.m. Kick-off breakfast in the Student Union Ballroom, UMass Amherst

8:45 a.m. Students load buses and travel to their volunteer sites

10 a.m.- 3 p.m. Volunteer activities. Here are some examples:

Lake Wallace Cleanup

Location: 66 State St., Belchertown

Students will clean up the edges of Lake Wallace and perform trail maintenance.

Sunset Farm

Location: 20 Brigham Lane, Amherst

Students will harvest vegetables from this community garden.

Holyoke Children’s Museum

Location: 444 Dwight St., Holyoke

Students will paint, perform repairs, power wash and do some demo work.

Mill River Recreation Area

Location: 95 Montague Rd., Amherst

Students will spread playground mulch, weed and mulch planting beds, paint benches and fences.

Gardening the Community

Location: 200 Walnut St., Springfield

Students will assist with farm activities at an urban farm.
