UMass Amherst officially kicked off the 2017-18 Faculty and Staff Campaign on Sept. 13.
Last year, 1,861 staff, faculty and their spouses and partners made gifts totaling a record $3.6 million to the university. In the 2016-17 campaign, faculty and staff supported nearly 400 areas of campus, including more than 60 academic departments and 81 scholarship funds.
Gifts also strengthened the UMass Amherst Libraries, the Minutemen Club and the new Student Care and Emergency Response Fund, whichhelps students facing a crisis or an unforeseen expense that threatens their ability to stay in college and make progress toward a degree.
“I am extremely proud of the generous spirit of our campus and of the philanthropic commitment of our faculty and staff to achieving our mission,” said Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy. “These resources help fuel high-priority campus initiatives and ensure our continued success and forward momentum.”
The university is offering $500,000 in matching funds to encourage the participation of current and retired faculty and staff during the 2017-18 academic year. Gifts up to $10,000 from current or retired faculty and staff will be matched $1 for $1 until the matching funds are
