AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Amherst again ranks among the nation’s top public national universities, according to the 2010 edition of America’s Best Colleges, released by U.S. News & World Report.
“UMass Amherst has received recognition from many quarters recently for its excellence in teaching, research and community engagement,” said UMass Amherst Chancellor Robert Holub. “We provide a superb education and outstanding value to students and their families, and this year’s rankings by U.S. News again place us among the best institutions in the country. As the Commonwealth’s flagship state university, we’re proud to be in this very select group.”
In the Top Public National Universities category, UMass Amherst ranks No. 54 in the country. Among all National Universities, the university ranks No. 106, along with three other institutions. In the magazine’s National Universities category there are 262 universities that offer a wide range of undergraduate majors as well as master’s and doctoral degrees. Many, such as UMass Amherst, strongly emphasize research.
