As part of the fourth annual “Tastes of the World Chef Culinary Conference” for campus food services, 60 outstanding college chefs will demonstrate their skills in a hot-food team competition Friday, June 20 at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Fifteen teams of four chefs from 21 schools will be competing. Each team will be given a mystery basket composed of two proteins, vegetables and fruits. Their goal is to produce a dinner using four out of five possible courses: soup, appetizer, salad, entree and dessert. There will be a strong focus on smaller portions and bold flavor. Six judges will award medals based on taste, flavor, creativity, nutritional value and presentation.
The media is invited to see the teams in action. The majority of meal items will be ready by about noon, followed by the awarding of medals at 2:30 p.m.
