AMHERST, Mass. – Women at the University of Massachusetts Amherst are expressing how they feel about their bodies as part of a creative art workshop hosted by the Women’s Health Project of University Health Services (UHS).
“In Our Bodies: Experiences of Bodies and Self” takes place Tuesday, April 1, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in the Student Union Craft Center. Approximately 30 women will create life-size representations of themselves using paint, charcoal, chalk, collage and other art mediums.
An exhibit planned for September, 2008 at the university’s Central Gallery will combine workshop creations with digital storytelling in a powerful exploration of body image issues. Information and resources will also be available.
The Women’s Health Project, part of UHS’ Health Education department, has been active at UMass Amherst since 1965. The group conducts workshops, sponsors events and gets involved in activities which empower women through positive choices.
“In Our Bodies” is made possible in part through a grant from the University of Massachusetts Arts Council, with support from the Student Union Craft Center. For more information, call Health Education at UHS, (413) 577-5181.
