The technology of tomorrow is being unveiled by student inventors at the UMass Amherst Technology Innovation Challenge, with teams competing for $80,000 dollars in prize money. Students and faculty will be on hand to answer questions. Members of the press, including photographers and videographers, are encouraged to attend.
Five finalists will be pitching their ideas, including a safety helmet that automatically calls 911 in case of accidents, therapeutic vests that relieve people suffering from anxiety disorders, and a device that enables the early detection of melanomas. Inventors will also showcase a technique for using stem cells to repair hearts damaged by cardiovascular disease and a system that brings rental companies into the Internet age.
