Whitmore Café in the administration building will be closed for renovations during winter break and will reopen during the spring semester with expanded menu options and greater convenience.
The café will close at the end of the business day on Friday, Dec. 23.
During renovations, Baby Berk will be parked outside to provide food, including hot soups daily, and there will be free coffee and treats every morning in the hallway near the café.
The café’s current single-line serving system will be replaced by three separate serving areas.
- Greenfields will offer fresh salads and wraps made to order, with tenders and grilled chicken toppings.
- Illy Café will serve hot coffee and espresso drinks, iced teas and coffees, hot sandwiches and paninis, breakfast sandwiches, baked goods and pastries.
- Harvest Fresh, where the salad bar currently is, will provide a hot bar with daily specials, Grab&Go salads and sandwiches and Better for You snacks. It will have an express register lane.
Van Sullivan, director of retail dining, said the assortment of hot sandwiches will be a hallmark of the renovated café.
Also during renovations, a new floor and wall coverings will be installed, and kitchen equipment will be upgraded.
Folowing reopening, the café’s hours will remain the same: 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The reoopening date has not been announced.
