Susan K. Whitbourne, professor of psychological and brain sciences and director of the Office of National Scholarship Advisement, spoke at an Oct. 28 reception hosted by the Massachusetts Chapter of the Fulbright Association in honor of the Fulbright program’s 70th anniversary.
Whitbourne was invited to speak to the group because UMass Amherst is a top producer of Fulbright students and scholars.
About 250 people attended the reception for visiting Fulbright recipients and Fulbright alumni held at Northeastern University. Attendees included Sen. Edward Markey, representatives of consulates in Boston and Fulbright recipients from all over the state. Keith Lema, a UMass Amherst alumnus who visited Spain under the Fulbright program, was among the guests.
A similar event is planned in Washington, D.C., said Whitbourne, and May graduate Brendon Moore, who is going to Malaysia in February on a Fulbright, is expected to attend. Moore is currently an intern at the White House.
