Under the direction of Catherine Jensen-Hole, the Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform on Thursday, Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. in Bezanson Recital Hall.
The night will consist of a mixture of jazz standards in traditional and contemporary arrangements. The repertoire includes Art Farmer and Jon Hendricks'' “Farmer''s Market,” which will feature graduate student Carol Daggs; Mitchell/Alter''s “You Turned the Tables on Me,” arranged by Kelly Kunz; and Benny Golson''s “Whisper Not,” arranged by Michele Weir.
The ensemble will also perform Kerry Marsh''s arrangement of John Coltrane''s “Impressions,” which has been given a new feel with a re-harmonized chord structure and a funk shuffle rhythmic context. A few pieces arranged by Jensen-Hole and graduate students will also be performed, including Jensen-Hole''s arrangement of the old ‘60''s standard “Call Me.” Jensen-Hole based her bossa nova-style arrangement on the recent recording by pianist and singer Elaine Elias.
Tickets are $10 general public and $5 for students, senior citizens and children under 18, and may be obtained through the Fine Arts Center Box Office (545-2511).
