Update on Post-Super Bowl Disturbance at UMass Amherst

There were a total of seven UMass Amherst students arrested Sunday night after the New England Patriots’ loss in the Super Bowl, according to UMass Police.

One student was arraigned this morning in Eastern Hampshire District Court in Belchertown. Jordan E. Ortiz, 22, of Marshfield, Mass., was arraigned on disorderly conduct, rioting and failing to disperse charges. Six other students are scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday, Feb. 6, in Belchertown.

Approximately $2,685 in damages was reported in six residence halls in the Southwest Residential Area. Mostly limited to bathrooms, the damages included things like removed or damaged toilet paper and soap dispensers, a shattered toilet and door vents being kicked in.
