Carson Cornelius-Burke, most recently general manager of WUEV radio at the University of Evansville, Indiana, has been named director of student broadcast media for UMass Amherst, focusing primarily on student radio station WMUA.
He begins work in June.
Experienced in college radio operations, management and advising, Cornelius-Burke was previously general manager of the University of Missouri radio station, KCOU, while an undergraduate.
A significant portion of the work in his new post will be devoted to advising and mentoring WMUA student employees, members and volunteers. WMUA is part of the university’s Student Engagement and Leadership area, which includes other student-initiated, long-standing programs such as UVC-TV19, student businesses, student governance and registered student organizations (RSOs).
Cornelius-Burke is a graduate of the University of Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in political science. His undergraduate time included work as sports director, talk show host and news anchor at KCOU before he served as station manager.
WMUA, licensed to UMass Amherst, is a student and community radio station in continuous operation on campus for more than 65 years. WMUA broadcasts from studios in the Campus Center at 91.1FM and streams via its website www.wmua.org.
