After 30 years at 505 East Pleasant St. on the eastern edge of the campus, the University of Massachusetts Press is moving this week to the East Experiment Station at 671 North Pleasant St., near Worcester Dining Commons.
Built in 1890 to house the Department of Vegetable Pathology, East Experiment Station was designed by architect Emory Ellsworth in the Richardson Romanesque style, with arched windows, brownstone lintels, sculpted downspouts, and rusticated stone and brick construction. Each office on the first floor has rectangular panels of stained glass above the windows.
“We are excited about our new home and look forward to welcoming authors and other visitors,” director says Bruce Wilcox.
The UMass Press mailing address will remain the same: P.O. Box 429, Amherst, MA 01004. Packages sent via UPS or FedEx should be addressed to 671 North Pleasant St., Amherst, MA 01002. Phone numbers are unchanged.
