*** MEDIA ADVISORY ***

DATE: Monday, April 16, 2012

TIME: 8-10:30 a.m.

PLACE: UMass Amherst Southwest Residence Area

There will be a campus cleanup in Southwest Residence Area to show student support and motivation to improve the quality of the landscape.

The Professional Landcare Network (PLANET) is an international association serving landscape professionals in all aspects of land management. In 2009, PLANET Day of Service was created in an effort to raise awareness and improve landscapes throughout the nation.

This event has already inspired more than 200 UMass Amherst students to volunteer. Although this is the university’s first year participating, that does not take away from the fact that UMass potentially has the largest site for the cleanup in the region.

The day will allow students to give back to UMass while simultaneously learning the value of improving the quality of life through landscaping.
