UMass Amherst Senior Selected for USA Today All-USA College Academic Team

AMHERST, Mass. - Caroline J. Sunshine, a senior psychology major and honors student at the University of Massachusetts, has received an honorable mention on the All-USA College Academic Team, compiled by the national daily newspaper USA Today. The team was announced in the Feb. 25 edition of the paper.

Award winners are nominated by their schools and chosen based on grades, awards and activities, leadership roles, and public service. Sunshine, a Brookline resident, was nominated by UMass psychology professor Susan Krauss Whitbourne.

Sunshine, who is scheduled to receive her bachelor''s degree in May, says she is applying for a one-year fellowship at the National Institutes of Health and then intends to go to graduate school. "I want to do social psychology research about gender, group dynamics, and power relations," Sunshine says. "I have always been involved in social causes and would like to gain more perspective on why inequality takes place."
