AMHERST, Mass. - Jon Sicks, associate head of the department of mathematics and statistics at the University of Massachusetts, will take more than 200 donated textbooks to Kenya in January, when he heads to the University of Nairobi for a seven-month teaching sabbatical.

Sicks, who has taught in Kenya before, says that educational resources, from textbooks to chalk, are scarce in that country. His colleagues and the department have donated the textbooks, many of which were from private collections. The books will be used as the foundation for a mathematics and statistics library at the University of Nairobi.
