The UMass Amherst Life Sciences Alumni Network is being launched Thursday, June 12 from 6-8 p.m. at the UMass Club, 225 Franklin St. in Boston.

Scott Garman, associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology, and Timothy Edmunds, vice president of biologics, structural and functional research at Genzyme Corporation, a Sanofi Company, will lead a discussion on the ever-increasing importance of academic-industry collaborations in bringing lifesaving medicines to patients.

All UMass system alumni and friends with an interest in life sciences are invited to network with business executives, academics, researchers and scientists from pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, as well as other industries with ties to the life sciences, such as the legal, finance and/or investment sectors.

The event is sponsored by international law firm Edwards Wildman.
