UMass Amherst Hosts Women in Engineering and Computing Career Day

Students from area high schools to attend

DATE: Monday, Oct. 26, 2015

TIME:  9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; activity sessions, 9:30-10:30 and 11 a.m. to noon

PLACE: Campus Center Auditorium

More than 200 young women from 25 high schools in Massachusetts, including those in Springfield, Chicopee, Greenfield and Orange, will explore the fields of engineering and computing through hands-on activities during this annual career day. The event is sponsored by UMass Amherst’s College of Engineering and College of Information and Computer Sciences, along with private companies Raytheon, the Verizon Foundation and General Dynamics.

Alumna Carol Craig, CEO of Craig Technologies, will be the keynote speaker. Subject areas that will be discussed include “Introduction to Computer Programming,” “Engineering Drug Delivery,” “Chibitronics Electrical Engineering through Art” and “The Engineering of Liquid/Solid Interactions.”

Participants will also view demonstrations of state-of-the-art technology and interact with industry representatives from Raytheon, BAE Systems, Pegasystems, Cimpress, Tighe & Bond, Woodard & Curran, and the U.S. Air Force.
