AMHERST, Mass. - The administration of the University of Massachusetts and members of the Graduate Employee Organization(GEO) have reached tentative agreement on a new three-year contract, according to Susan Pearson, associate provost and chief negotiator for the University.

According to Pearson, the contract provides for average stipend increases of 5 percent for each year of the agreement.

Pearson said: "We are delighted to have reached timely agreement on a contract that includes significant increases in stipend levels for our highly deserving graduate students."

Negotiations between the University and GEO, which represents approximately 2,500 graduate student employees on campus, began late last February. Agreement on the new contract came late this afternoon.
