UMass Amherst Dining was recently honored with a Global Restaurant Award for its commitment to sustainability.

The awards, which were presented during the Global Restaurant Investment Forum (GRIF), offer an opportunity for industry leaders worldwide to recognize those businesses that have shown innovation, vision and leadership in their concepts and operations. Award winners were chosen for being the best at engaging with their consumers through social media, technology, design or sustainability.

Ken Toong, executive director of auxiliary enterprises, said, “What an incredible honor. At UMass Amherst Dining we have a strong culture of providing healthy, sustainable and delicious food for our customers. I accept this award on behalf of all those who make our program possible at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, the largest campus dining program in America.”

“This award is a great honor and a testament to UMass Amherst’s commitment to sustainable food practices,” said Andrew Mangels, vice chancellor of administration and finance. “We have a great team at UMass Dining, and we are proud of them.”

The Global Restaurant Awards were developed by Bench Events, which produces conferences in the hotel investment arena, and Connecting Travel, whose sister business, The Caterer, is responsible for the Cateys awards for hospitality in the United Kindom.
