AMHERST, Mass. – The College of Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst will hold its third annual Outstanding Alumni Awards Luncheon Oct. 27 during Homecoming Weekend. The event will be held from noon to 2:30 p.m. in the Amherst Room of the Campus Center. The awards luncheon is open to the public.
Nine individuals who epitomize the potential of an education at the College of Engineering through their exemplary accomplishments will be honored with outstanding junior and senior alumni awards. The recipients also embody the college’s mission to educate the engineering leaders of tomorrow and help drive the economy of today.
Recipients of the 2012 Outstanding Senior Alumni award have brought recognition and honor to the college through their professional achievements, leadership, and service to the profession, university, and society. This year’s award winners are: Najmi Jarwala, ’86 and ‘88, electrical and computer engineering;Roberto Leon, ‘78, civil engineering; F. Michael Mahoney, ‘83, civil engineering, ‘85, mechanical engineering; Barry Siadat, ‘77, polymer science and engineering, ‘79, chemical engineering, and Eric Swanson, ‘82, electrical engineering.
Recipients of the 2012 Outstanding Junior Alumni award are worthy ambassadors for the college and have shown extraordinary effort and notable success in their early careers. This year the recipients are: Shawn P. Kelley, ‘94, ’97 and ‘03, civil engineering; Borislava Kostova, ‘06, chemical engineering; Jessica Townsend, ‘94, mechanical engineering, and Joel Voldman, ‘95, electrical engineering.
