Donald Futrell has been appointed associate vice chancellor for Facilities and Campus Services and David Murphy has been named director of the Budget Office, according to a May 14 memorandum from Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance Joyce M. Hatch.

Futrell is filling a post that has been vacant since the resignation of Ted Weidner in November 2002. He comes to UMass from Health Midwest in Missouri, where he was vice president of facilities and support services. He served previously as director of facilities operations and security at the University of Chicago Hospitals and as director of campus security, patient transportation and telecommunications at Michael Reese Hospital & Medical Center, also in Chicago. He was security manager for Loyola University Medical Center from 1980 to 1992.

Hatch noted that Murphy has 15 years of experience in fiscal management, including 11 in higher education, most recently as assistant dean for finance in the faculty of arts and sciences at Harvard University. In that role, Murphy is responsible for managing the annual budget of Harvard''s largest school. He previously was assistant budget director at Brown University.

Futrell will begin work on campus the week of May 24 and Murphy will assume his duties on June 28, said the memo.

Hatch also expressed her appreciation for Jacqui Watrous'' work as interim budget director since September 2002. "For over a year, Jacqui provided excellent leadership in the Budget Office while continuing to manage her responsibilities as director of Administrative Systems and Financial and Cost Analysis," said Hatch.
