Three Appointed to Tenured Positions

The Board of Trustees voted June 17 to approve three appointments to tenured faculty positions.

Friederike Jentoft was appointed professor in chemical engineering; Gabriela Weaver was appointed professor in chemistry, and Kiran Asher was appointed associate professor in women, gender, sexuality studies.

Jentoft, a scholar of catalysis and catalyst design, was previously a professor at the University of Oklahoma.  Before that she was on the staff of the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society in Berlin.

Weaver, who studies the pedagogy of science, joined UMass Amherst in September, 2014 as vice provost for faculty development and director of the center for teaching and faculty development. Previously, she was director of the Discovery Learning Research Center at Purdue University.

Asher, who researches sustainable development, was on leave during the 2014-15 academic year to complete the second year of a two-year residency as a senior scientist at the Center for International Forestry Research in Bogor, Indonesia. Previously, she was an associate professor at Clark University.
