Ten Openings Available for Free Polymer Science Workshop at UMass for High School Students

AMHERST, Mass. – The polymer science and engineering department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst has opened its ASPIRE program free of charge to 10 high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. The Materials Research Science and Engineering Center will sponsor this valuable laboratory experience that begins this Saturday, Jan. 15, from 8:30 a.m. to noon and will meet each Saturday morning until Feb.12. Students will be chosen on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Guided by graduate students from the nationally recognized polymer science program, high school students will have the opportunity to learn about the chemistry, physics and engineering of polymers in a hands-on laboratory environment and learn to synthesize, characterize and test polymers with laboratory equipment at the Conte Center.

A certificate of participation will be awarded to each student to enhance their resume.
