It was a year full of medalists, record breakers, achievements and accomplishments for club sports as some students qualified for collegiate national championships and others traveled abroad to compete internationally, according to Annmarie Seifert, associate vice chancellor for student development.

The team finished second in the country in the Division I American Collegiate Hockey Association National Championships in March at the University of Delaware. The UMass skydiving club’s Derek Clougherty, Matt Leonard, Jennifer Shumway and Casey Tylek won gold medals in Lake Wales, Fla., during the 2014 U.S. Parachute Association National Collegiate Parachuting Championships in January. Shumway and Tylek scored 22 points in the second round of the two-way formation portion to set collegiate skydiving records.

In January, the figure skating team won gold at the 2014 New England Challenge Cup in Westborough.

Western Riding, the campus’ equestrian team, sent three riders to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association 2014 semi-finals in Findlay, Ohio in March. Neha Deshpandel competed in the advanced section, Alissa Baldarelli as a novice and Emily Messing finished sixth in open horsemanship.

For the second year in a row, UMass men’s rugby won the Beast of the East Tournament in April in Portsmouth, R.I.

Ranked fourth in the Northeast and 19th in the country, men’s ultimate frisbee went to Mason, Ohio in May to compete in the USA Ultimate College Championships for the first time in 25 years.

A number of other club teams qualified or competed in collegiate competitions, including UMass alpine skiing, baseball, disc golf, fencing, field hockey, paintball, table tennis, triathlon and wrestling.
