A full day of activities, food, music, and alumni celebrations awaits UMass Amherst alumni and Minutemen football fans at Gillette Stadium this Saturday, Sept. 7, when the Minutemen kickoff their 2013 home campaign against Maine at 2 p.m.
The UMass Amherst Alumni Association Tailgate Tent is the place to go “All In” on pregame action, as the team and university celebrate Commonwealth Honors College and College of Engineering Day. Starting at 11 a.m., alumni and fans can gather at the Tailgate Tent to meet Chancellor Kumble Subbaswamy and learn about the latest research and advances at the College of Engineering and Commonwealth Honors College.
Performances by the Minutemen Marching Band, cheerleaders and dance team will provide entertainment as fans play traditional tailgating games. Children can have their faces painted and fans can have “eye-black” applied.
At 11:30 a.m., the Minutemen team buses will roll up to the Tailgate Tent, and fans can take part in the traditional Minutemen Team March as head coach Charley Molnar and the players greet fans and alumni as they enter Gillette Stadium to prepare for action.
Fans should also bring their appetites to the Tailgate Tent where food and lunch will be served at noon. For $10, fans can enjoy a pregame meal of chicken tenders, pasta and meatballs, salad, rolls, cookies and soft drinks, with beer and wine available for separate purchase.
Parking at Gillette stadium is free for all fans, and alumni of Commonwealth Honors College and the College of Engineering are eligible to receive discounted tickets to this week’s game.
