Mats Selen

“From Tradition to Enlightenment: The Evolution of Intro Physics at the University of Illinois,” a talk by Mats Selen of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. with refreshments at 3:45 p.m. in 124 Hasbrouck.

The way physics was taught at UIUC was changed significantly 17 years ago, when courses were defined by their content, rather than by the faculty assigned to teach them. This talk will discuss this evolution as well as several of the resulting innovations, including prelectures, just in time teaching, peer instruction, and a new approach to labs.
