Director of Athletics John McCutcheon announced the promotion of Jaime Seguin to deputy athletics director on March 28. Seguin will also now serve as the senior woman administrator for the department.
The elevation of Seguin is part of a reorganization process undertaken by Athletics to enhance the student-athlete experience.
"I am extremely pleased that we have been able to move Jaime into this leadership position within UMass Athletics. Her contributions and dedication over the past decade have prepared her well for this vital role that will have a significant impact on our student-athletes," said McCutcheon.
As part of the reorganization, a search to hire an assistant athletic director for business to oversee all fiscal aspects of the Athletic Department is currently underway.
Additionally, 30-year veteran Joyce Hahn has been promoted to the position of director of business operations and Robin Wagner has been promoted to the position of assistant athletic director for personnel.
After handling all fiscal matters of the Department of Athletics over the last decade, Seguin will now shift her focus to the oversight of the student-athlete service units including student-athlete academic services, athletic training and strength and conditioning. The main focus of her responsibilities will be on collaboration between the Athletic Department and university-wide constituencies such as the Dean of Students Office. This collaboration will streamline support resources; organize proactive training and education for student-athletes, staff and coaches; and help promote gender equity, diversity and overall student-athlete welfare. Seguin will also now oversee the Campus Recreation department.
Over the past several years, Seguin served as the associate senior woman administrator under softball coach Elaine Sortino. The longtime Hall of Fame head coach served as associate athletics director for sports programs and student services and was the department's senior woman administrator until her death in August 2013. In her new role, Seguin will take over many of the responsibilities that were handled for so long by Sortino.
"One of the greatest experiences of my life was having the ability to learn from and work with Elaine Sortino," said Seguin. "Every day she worked for the betterment of our student-athletes. My time working alongside her instilled me with that same purpose and I look forward to serving the Athletic Department and the university in this new role."
A 1999 alumna of Boston College, Seguin began her career at UMass in April 2004 as the associate athletics director for business and personnel. She was promoted to the title of executive associate athletics director/associate senior woman administrator in 2007.
In her previous role, she handled both the long-range fiscal planning for the department and the daily monitoring and administration of all business operations including operating, endowment, gift, scholarship and compensation accounts.
Seguin will continue to oversee all personnel responsibilities for the department as well as continue to serve on several university committees such as the Title IX Coordination team. She currently serves as a program administrator for women's basketball, field hockey, and women's tennis and is on various Atlantic 10 Conference committees as well.
Prior to UMass, she spent four years at the University of Hartford, including three as the assistant athletic director for business and finance. Seguin was charged with developing, analyzing, monitoring and reconciling the overall athletic department's budget that was composed of 18 Division I programs. Additionally, she oversaw all personnel functions and was the program administrator for the women's golf program.
Seguin received her bachelor's degree in economics and psychology from Boston College before earning her master's degree in sport management from UMass Amherst in 2000.
