Tom Sears has joined Auxiliary Enterprises as the new director of hospitality services and is overseeing the management of Hotel UMass and Conference Services, plus the sales activities of UMass Catering, as part of a newly created one-stop shopping approach, according to executive director Ken Toong.
Sears, who began his new duties last month, has worked as a senior manager in hotels, restaurants and private clubs, most recently six years as the assistant general manager for the Towson University Marriott in Towson, Maryland. From 2006-08, he was senior event manager at the Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington, Virginia, where he was director of restaurants from 2004–08. Sears also worked as director of restaurants at the Marriott Inn and Conference Center in Maryland from 2002-03.
From 2003-04, he was the general manager of the DuClaw Brewing Company, a craft brewery and restaurant in Maryland, and from 1997 to 2002, he was food and beverage director and chef at the Hunt Valley Golf Club, Phoenix, Maryland.
“I am delighted to have such an accomplished veteran of hospitality to be part of the Auxiliary Enterprises management team as we continue to grow our business, while enhancing our facilities and program, “ said Toong.
Meredith Schmidt will continue to manage the Facility Services Department of the Campus Center/Student Union Complex, student-related services and vending contract, as well as special projects, Toong added.
