The university is once again participating in the two-month national RecycleMania competition, which challenges colleges and universities to improve recycling rates and reduce waste.

Approximately 400 schools will take part in the challenge, which runs Feb. 4-March 31.

Campuses earn points when the amount of materials being recycled increases and when the amount of trash being generated decreases. All faculty, staff and students can help.

Recycling and waste numbers are measured across campus, so everyone is a participant in the competition. UMass Amherst’s sustainability sitehas information on RecycleMania and ideas on how to improve recycling rates. Be sure to follow recycling guidelines.

To keep participants motivated and alert, all retail dining locations are offering Free Coffee Mondays. Bring your reusable mug on Mondays during the contest to any retail dining location and mention RecycleMania to get a free regular cup of coffee.
