Reception to Kick Off ‘40+ Years’ of UMass Transit

The Science and Engineering Library (SEL) will host a networking reception to kick off its special exhibit to celebrate the “40+ years” of UMass Transit on Monday, Oct. 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. in A273 Lederle Graduate Research Center Low-Rise.

SEL developed the exhibit with UMass Transit and the UMass Transportation Center.

A small speaking program highlighting the history of UMass Transit and the role it serves within the UMass Amherst community will begin at 4:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.

The campus bus system dates from 1969. In 1976, working with the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority, the UMass Amherst system became the first no-fare public transit system in the country. Since then it has become a model nationwide.

The event is free and open to the public.
