AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Amherst ranks among the top 200 programs worldwide in 17 academic disciplines, according to the QS World University Subject Rankings released March 22.
This year’s QS World University Rankings by Subject features 42 disciplines making it the largest ever ranking of its kind. The results are informed by the opinion of 76,798 academics and 44,426 employers, together with the analysis of millions of research papers and citations in the Scopus bibliometric database.
UMass Amherst’s linguistics department is ranked No. 7 in the world and the campus is ranked 35th in agriculture and forestry.
Among the top 100 programs worldwide, UMass Amherst is ranked in computer and information sciences, and chemical engineering.
This year, UMass Amherst moved into the top 150 programs for economics and econometrics. The university is also in the top 150 internationally for chemistry, environmental studies, materials sciences, and philosophy.
Among the top 200 programs around the globe, UMass Amherst is ranked for communication and media studies, earth and marine sciences, English language and literature, modern languages, physics and astronomy, politics, psychology and sociology.
UMass Amherst is also among the top 250 programs in biological sciences and the top 300 for electrical and electronic engineering.
