AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Amherst is among the top 300 universities worldwide, according to the QS World Rankings released today.
UMass Amherst placed 261st on the list of the best 800 universities around the globe, an improvement from 290 last year.
The QS World Rankings are based on academic reputation, employer reputation and citations per faculty paper, the number of international faculty and students, and faculty-student ratios. The rankings also assess each school in five broad fields: arts and humanities; natural sciences; engineering and technology; life sciences and medicine, and social sciences and management.
UMass Amherst’s ranks 144th in arts and humanities, up from 162 last year. The campus also improved from 231st to 166th in natural sciences, and ranks 196th in engineering and technology, moving up 59 places from 255th last year. The university is No. 289 in life sciences and medicine and No. 263 in social sciences and management.
In May, QS World Rankings released subject rankings in which UMass Amherst was No. 8 in linguistics, No. 44 in agriculture and forestry, and in the top 100 in the fields of chemical engineering and materials science.
