AMHERST, Mass. - UMass senior and volleyball star Jill Meyers, who was named one of Glamour Magazine''s Top Ten College Women, has helped organize a community project set to take place this weekend.
The public is invited to participate in the event, the painting of a 30-foot, outdoor mural in Northampton. The project will take place outside Pleasant Street Liquor, near Roberto''s Pizza, May 13-14. The mural will depict a scene from a park, with representations of people of diverse ages and heritages, and flags from a range of nations. Painting will take place 11 a.m.-5 p.m. on Sat. May 13, and 12-4 p.m. on Sun. May 14. The event will take place rain or shine.
A group of youths collaborated in designing the mural with the help of artist Lynn Peterfruend. The young people, ages 13-16, are community teen-agers as well as youths from Franklin County. The mural space was donated by the owner of Pleasant Street Liquor.
