Professor Catherine Portuges, comparative literature, presented a lecture, "From Shoah to Son of Saul: an Intergenerational Dialogue," on March 16 at Stanford University.

In her lecture, Portuges compared Claude Lanzmann's documentary Shoah (France, 1985) and László Nemes's Son of Saul (Hungary, 2015), exploring ways in which transgenerational cinema reckons with the traumas of history.

Her visit was sponsored by the Stanford University Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies and the Taube Center for Jewish Studies, and was accompanied by a screening ofSon of Saul.
