The pending $10.3 billion hostile buyout of PeopleSoft by Oracle is not expected to affect the campus’ soon-to-be-upgraded financial and human resources systems, according to Joyce Hatch, vice chancellor for Administration and Finance.

“The best information we have is that Oracle will maintain PeopleSoft systems at least until a translation of the best combined version is available,” Hatch told the Faculty Senate on Dec. 16. “We’d be in trouble if we weren’t converting.”

Hatch said estimates indicate that it will take Oracle about four years to transfer the two companies’ systems into a single product. Since that timeframe will coincide with the campus’s next scheduled upgrade, she said, “We’re not concerned.”
