Opera Workshop Performs Scenes from Favorite Operas

The Opera Workshop will perform scenes from favorite operas on Sunday, April 27 at 1p.m. in Bezanson Recital Hall.

The scenes, sung in English or Italian, are from Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” (Cinderella); Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” and “La Clemenza di Tito”; Johann Strauss’ “Die Fledermaus”; Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Mikado”; Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas”; Lee Hoiby’s “Summer and Smoke” and Douglas Moore’s “The Ballad of Baby Doe.”

Performers will include vocalists from the department of music and dance; faculty members Marjorie Melnick and Dana Schnitzer are the stage directors and Gretchen Peery is the coach/accompanist.

Tickets are $10 general public, $3 UMass students, $5 other students, children and seniors and are available at the Fine Arts Center Box Office, 545-2511, or at fac.umass.edu/musicanddance.
