Obituary: Mireille Azibert-Buteau, taught French

Mireille M. Azibert-Buteau, 82, of Northampton, a former assistant professor in Romance Languages, died May 29 at home.

Born in Pertuis, France, attended school in France and the United States, and received a doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania.

She was an instructor from 1966-69 and an assistant professor from 1969-73. She also taught at Smith College and Vassar College, from which she retired in 1980.

Her husband, John Buteau, died earlier.

She leaves a son, Henri Azibert, of Windham, N.H., and two grandchildren.

Memorial gifts may be made to the St. Joseph''s Indian School, Chamberlain, SD 57326.

The funeral will be June 3 at 9 a.m. from the Ahearn Funeral Home in Northampton, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Annunciation Church.

Burial will be at a later date.
