Grace S. Rollason, 85, of Amherst, professor emeritus of Biology, died Sept. 19.
Born in Richmond Hill, N.Y., she earned her bachelor’s degree at Hunter College and her doctorate at New York University.
A specialist in the field of embryology, she taught in the Zoology Department for 22 years until her retirement in 1985. She also served on the board of the Bachelor’s Degree with Individual Concentration (BDIC) program.
Before joining the faculty, she held research posts at Harvard University and Amherst College.
She was a member of Sigma Xi and a member and past chapter president of Phi Beta Kappa. She also was a past president of the Retired Faculty Association and a member and secretary of the Five College Learning in Retirement Council
She leaves her husband, H. Duncan Rollason, Jr., professor emeritus of Biology; her daughter, Betsy, of Burlington, Vt.; her son, Duncan; a grandson, Duncan, and his mother, Holly, also of Burlington, Vt.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Sept. 26 at 2:30 p.m. in First Congregational Church of Amherst.
