Frank C. Olbris, 69, of Florence, mail clerk II in Mail and Distribution Services and former president of the University Staff Association, died Sept. 15 at the Hospice of the Fisher Home in Amherst.
Born in Northampton, he graduated from Northampton High School and Western New England College with a bachelor’s degree in engineering.
Olbris joined the Central Communications staff in 1964 and for many years was a fixture in the Whitmore Mail Room, where he handled bulk mailing.
He was active in the University Staff Association since its earliest days, serving most recently as a steward. He was elected president of the union in 1992. He was also active in the union’s affiliate organization, the Massachusetts Teachers Association and was a delegate to its annual conventions.
He also served on the board of directors of the UMass/Five College Federal Credit Union and was among the founding members of the organization.
He leaves his brother Steve C. Olbris and his wife Judy of Southwick, his sisters Linda Olbris of Fort Lee, N.J., and Mary Olbris of Los Angeles, a niece and two nephews.
There are no calling hours. Services will be held Monday, Sept. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the Unitarian Society of Florence and Northampton, 220 Main St., Northampton. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
A reception will follow at the World War II Club on Conz Street in Northampton.
